We were very lucky this week to have a magician come and to watch the Pasifika Group and the Kapa Haka group perform before they went to Polyfest. We were definitely well entertained at school this week!

School Fair
We are all soooo excited about the school fair. We have already planed how we can spend our pocket money. Some of us are looking forward to sugar alley, others can't wait to buy our tie snakes that we have worked so hard on. Make sure you pop by the pamper palace to see Mrs Sturge!

Museum Trip
What a bust week we have had! We really enjoyed listening to the middle team speeches at the finals. Well done to Tessa, Charlotte, Melissa and Nicholas for representing our class. Our highlight of the week was visiting the museum to learn about Maori art and music. We loved touching the Maori instruments with special gloves on!

A great start to term 2!
Room 9 has made a great start to the term. Mrs Sturge was away in Hong Kong for week one and we were lucky to have Mrs Jones to look after us. In week 2 Mrs Sturge came back and she even bought us presents while she was away! We have seen some of her holiday photos and eaten Hong Kong lollies. This week we started Milk in Schools. If we want to we can choose to have nice cold milk during wicked writing time Yum! Here we are enjoying our milk.

Farewell to a friend
Room 9 is feeling sad today as we say goodbye to a friend. Alex's dog, Colin was sadly put to sleep last night. This is what Alex would like to say about his friend.
He was my dad's first baby, I was his second. We have another dog called Alvin and he and Colin were best friends. When Colin was a baby he went to puppy pre-school. He learnt how to roll over, do high fives and play dead. When Colin was a puppy he tore up the toilet paper all over the kitchen! Because he is a Fox Terrier, Dad bought him a toy rabbit. It lasted two days and when Mum and Dad came home it was already torn to pieces. When he was ten years old Colin got bit by another dog and had to have stitches just like me. While playing with his best friend, Colin twisted his leg. The vet said that he should be put down but Colin lasted a few more years. This time Colin was too old and in too much pain, we could see him limping. The kindest thing to do was to put Colin to sleep. I will miss Colin and I will remember him as a puppy, in the snow with his jacket on. - Alex

International Week
This week the Gifu children came to visit our school for three days. there were five girls and two boys. We had fun. International day was their last day so they did a dance for us. Some of the children dressed up in national costume. The learning detectives called us up class by class onto the stage. Then each class did a parade. Room 9 decided to do something extra for international day. We had a shared international morning tea, there were lots of goodie ummmm!!!!!

Welcome to the start of a new year in Room 9 at George Street Normal School. We've been busy getting to know each other and thinking about how we can make Room 9 the best it can be. The value of the term is responsibility and we want to be responsible for our own success and the success of our classmates. Have a look at our art we did together and our thinking charts.
